PARTY-GOERS are being offered free crime prevention advice when spending a penny at pubs and clubs.
Posters urging women to look after their handbags have been put up in female toilets in over 20 South Shields nightspots.
Luggage BagsThe timely reminder comes as part of Operation Lapland, South Tyneside police's crackdown on crime during Tone Bracelet the festive period.
Thieves are known to trawl town centre bars and nightclubs looking for unattended personal belongings they can steal from drinkers. However, the poster encourages women to safeguard their valuables and reduce the opportunity for theft.
Extra patrols will also be
embroidered patches in place to target criminals. Insp Peter Sutton, of South Shields police, said: "It's hoped women will see the posters, take heed of the crime prevention messages and not be complacent about the safety of their valuables."
