FAKENHAM is expanding the scope of its annual countryside day on Friday, February 19 by celebrating the armed forces. Funds raised from the charity race, which starts the day at noon, will be split between the Countryside Alliance and Help for Heroes.
The event, sponsored by Ames Nissan from Thetford, has been restricted to retired East Anglian point-to-point riders, with the weights raised to 13st 7lb and distance extended to 2m.
The six men and six women participants have each pledged at least pounds 1,000 from sponsorship.
Among those expecting to take part is serving officer Guy Disney, who will make his return to race-riding after losing the lower half of his right leg last summer when a rocket-propelled grenade hit his patrol vehicle in Helmand, Afghanistan.
