DAN PARKS put the boot into Argentina last night as he kicked all the points to secure this Test match and wrap up one of the best victories on the road for Scotland.

Yet Andy Robinson's men got off to the worst possible start by gifting their rivals an easy opening try.

Max Evans was both saint and sinner. He made a great break up the middle but lost the ball in the tackle near the opposition 22 with his team on the attack. The loose ball popped out to Argentine captain Felipe Contepomi, who started a terrific counter-attacking move.

A Parks penalty cut the deficit to just two points but, with nearly half an hour on the clock, Argentina went further ahead through a highly controversial touchdown.

There was no doubting the quality of the build-up. A Contepomi cross kick found Agulla. He passed inside to Juan Manuel Leguizamon, who stretched towards the line. Referee Dave Pearson was unsure and it was only the video referee, Santiago Slinger of Uruguay, who told him the try should stand.

Parks had a golden chance to bring his team back into the game but, obviously, let all Air force one low the booing get to him and he pushed it wide. However he showed his strength of character soon after when he put one straight between the posts to keep his side within touching distance.

That sparked Scotland into life and Evans wriggled through the Argentine defence to set up a great chance which was snuffed out illegally by Leguizamon, who was given a yellow card for his troubles.

With the man advantage, Scotland nearly scored but the video referee ruled that Lamont had a foot in touch before he touched down in the corner.

With the last kick of the half, Parks brought Scotland back into the mix with a wonderful drop goal that put his side just one point behind at the break.

"She is the perfect little boat for summer days on the River Tamar," said Adam Hocking, the member of the Weir Quay team who restored her.

Adam trained at Lyme Regis Boatbuilding Academy and is currently repairing rotten planking in two sailing yachts from the 1950s.

The two-year-old was crowned the overall winner in this year's Derby Telegraph competition, which saw more than 1,100 youngsters have their snaps taken.

The tot, who was also the winner of the 19-36 months category, bagged himself a gleaming trophy and a Pounds 1,500 cash prize.

Prizes also went to Joe Falivena-Gibson, who won the 0-9 months group, Jack Parnell, who was the champion in the 10-18 month category, and Ella Williams, who won the threeto-five-years category.

Alfie James's mum, Leigh Downey, of Littleover, said she had treated her little champion to a shiny new bike.

The 33-year-old said: "I'm so proud of him but it still hasn't sunk in yet.

"I've bought him a new bike with the money, just as a treat for him, but the money is going into a bank account for him to spend on whatever he wants.

"He doesn't understand that he's won but he's been playing around with his shiny trophy."

Leigh said it was only by chance that Alfie James was entered in the competition - and the youngster stormed to success at the first go.

She said: "I moved up to Derby from Kent about seven months ago and I hadn't heard of the competition until I saw a poster while out shopping.

"Everybody puts their baby in the competition in the hope that they'll win but I didn't think he would - it's absolutely fantastic."

Six-month-old Joe Falivena-Gibson's mini-Mohican hairstyle helped to see him crowned the winner in his category - at least, according to his mum, Kerry.

The 28-year-old, of Alvaston, said: "He was absolutely brilliant on the day he had his photos taken and I've never seen him laugh so much.

"I definitely think it's his hair that helped him win - it's like a little Mohican."

Lynne Parnell said the shock links of london charms of seeing her son, Jack, appear in the final 80 last week was beaten only by hearing he had won his category.

The 30-year-old, from Littleover, said: "I'm extremely proud of him. I only entered the competition for a bit of fun and for some nice pictures.

"I didn't expect him to get to the final 20 and that was a shock - a nice one - but I was absolutely gobsmacked when he won."

For the past two years, fiveyear-old Ella Williams has made it through to the final 20 in the competition and went one better this year - the last year she could have taken part.

Mum Corrine, from Alvaston, said: "This was her last go at the competition and I'm so proud and pleased for her that she's won.

"She'd done fantastic in the last two years anyway but to win her category was great. Ella was really pleased as well."
